When Cuts, Scrapes or Injuries Need a Bit More Attention

From a tumble on the pavement to an accidental cut during play, childhood wounds come in all shapes and sizes. Some heal easily at home with simple care. Others need more attention to ensure proper healing and prevent complications. At Joyful Seeds Paediatric & Development Clinic in Bukit Timah, we help families care for their child’s wounds with a calm, thorough approach that brings comfort and clarity.

Wounds are a normal part of growing up. With the right treatment and support, most injuries heal well. We are here to guide you through the process with care that supports both healing and peace of mind.

What Is Wound Management

Wound management refers to the steps taken to clean, protect and support healing for any injury that breaks the skin. This includes:

  • Cuts or lacerations

  • Grazes and abrasions

  • Surgical wounds

  • Deeper puncture wounds

  • Infected or slow-healing areas

Proper care helps reduce pain, lower the risk of infection and minimise scarring. It also allows your child to return comfortably to play, school and everyday activities.

What You Might Notice

Children may not always describe what they are feeling, but there are clear signs that a wound may need medical review.

Wounds That Are Deep or Not Closing

If the skin is open beyond the surface or bleeding does not stop with pressure, it may require medical attention. Wounds with visible edges or exposed tissue often need a doctor’s assessment.

Signs of Infection

Look for redness that is spreading, warmth around the wound, yellow discharge or increasing pain. These signs suggest that the wound is not healing well and may be infected.

Slow or Difficult Healing

If a wound is still painful, swollen or open after several days, it may need dressing changes, cleaning or medication to support healing.
